Max Ater is an actor, writer, and creator based in Southern Maine. Since stepping in front of the camera in 2020, he’s brought his passion for storytelling to every role. His work spans narrative film, sketch comedy, music videos, and experimental shorts—often collaborating with indie directors, studios, and film students across New England.
He comes from a family of artists. His father Johnny is a fixture in Maine’s standup comedy scene, and his mother is a painter. With roots in music production and a deep respect for story, Max’s performances carry the kind of nuance that comes from lived experience. He’s trained with private instructors in both New England and Los Angeles and continues to build his craft through on-set experience. His writing often explores isolation, identity, and inner conflict—favoring complex characters and unflinching emotional arcs.
Max also directs, edits, and produces short films out of his home studio, blending cinematography, sound design, and performance into stylized, character-driven pieces. He has worked professionally as a voiceover artist, model, and musician, and brings a cinematic mindset to everything he touches.
